Polder-Bridges

invited competition, July 2007

The assignment was to design a family of 41 bridges for the area ‘Park Zestienhoven’ in the north of Rotterdam. The idea is simple. Since the theme of this new housing area will be the Dutch polder it is obvious that the bridge should reflect the image of a polder bridge. In our design we did exactly this and rescaled the typology of the ‘polder bridge’, which is usually 2 meter wide and only usable for pedestrians, to the needs and dimensions of ‘Park Zestienhoven’.
